For the nonprofit group that I chose did not go directly do my topic but I found something that is related to it. The nonprofit group that I chose is called About Us. Their main goal is to support the making of electric cars. At first glance you would think this would help the environment, but you would be completly wrong. Electric cars are still bad for the environment. There are multiple reasons why electric cars are bad for the environment. One reason is that the electric cars use electricity and for the electricity to work they need to use fossil fuels and that creates pollution and that is one reason why electric cars are bad for the environment. The second reason why electric cars are bad for the environment is because they have to mine for the fossil fuels and that leads to pollution. When I first found out the elctric cars are somewhat bad for the environment I was truly shocked because everyone says that they are great for the environment. I could not find their tax information on the website so I think About Us is not that credible at all. Their goal is to one day have everyone drive electric cars and I do think that is a reasonable goal because electric cars are still better for the environment than gas cars. This is a truly fasinating topic and I would love to learn more about why electric cars are bad for the environment.

I decided to research the nonprofit group called the Sierra Club. Their main goal is to protect earth’s natural resources. The Sierra Club is a social welfare organization which means they are allowed to be involved in legislative lobbying and political advocacy. This means they are credible because they have more leeway than other nonprofit groups. That also means they are more reconized than other nonprofit groups. The Sierra Club has very reasonable goals in my opinion. The Sierra Club is willing to do anything if there is an efftive way to help earth’s natural resources and help stop global warming. The emotional appeal is everywhere on the Sierra Club’s website. There are a bunch of quotes and pictures everywhere. One quote by Nancy Newhall states “(We cannot) violate our parks, forests, wildernesses… to ruin for all time what all time cannot replace” (Sierra Club). The Sierra Club says that “We know actions speak louder than words. That’s why we’ve built a national community of volunteers, advocates, and grassroots activists who show up when and where it counts” (Sierra Club). That is really good to know because we know that they are getting stuff done with the money they get. It proves that they are not wasting the donations they are getting from everyone. I would love to donate to this cause because I know that my money will go towards a really good cause. All in all, I loved what I read about the Sierra Club and I want to help their cause.

Before I did some research on this topic, I did not know anything about skin care products. I have learned so much about skin care products after doing my research on them. The skin care labeling I will be writing about is the “not tested on animals”. At first glance I thought it sounded very interesting so I decided to do some research on it. When it says “not tested on animals”’, it means that it guarantees that the product was not tested on any new animals. That is great to know because I do not want animals going through pain by testing it out. It also means that any products with that label on it did not have any new animals testing it out. To get certified, the skin care products need to sign a legally binding contract. Then they make sure that anything in your product is not tested on any animals. They even check the supplier to make sure that it is not getting tested on any animals. The unfortunate part about getting the “not tested on animals” logo is that it cost a lot of money. It costs so much money that some companies can not afford it. That sucks for them because they might be completely certified but they can not afford it. That means it will hurt their business because people want the stuff with the correct labeling on it. I am really excited that I researched this topic this week because I learned so much about what is going on with skin care products.

In this week’s blog I will be writing about United egg producers certified. This topic is about how they treat and take care of the hens that produce the eggs that we eat. This is a very important topic to me because I eat a lot of eggs. When I am back home, I usually eat five or six eggs after working out because they have a ton of protein in them. The united egg producers have two ways of taking care of the hens, and that is when they are caged and when they are not caged. The united egg producers said this about how they care about the chickens, “Egg farmers sincerely care about the welfare of their chickens and completely understand that poor husbandry practices will result in higher mortality and fewer eggs” (https://uepcertified.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/Caged-UEP-Guidelines_17.pdf). That is important because that really proves that they care about the chickens and eggs because if the chickens are healthy they will produce more eggs and those eggs will be better quality. In order to sell eggs as part of the united egg producers certified, they make sure that “Any egg farmer desiring to be recognized and market eggs as UEP Certified must implement the scientific guidelines on 100% of their flocks” (https://uepcertified.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/Caged-UEP-Guidelines_17.pdf). That is awesome to know that because that is how we know all the hens are healthy and that we will not be getting any diseases from the eggs. I loved researching this topic this week.

Blog #4 Endangered Species

The endangered species that I choose to write about is the San Francisco garter snake. I chose it because I thought it looked super cool and interesting. The San Francisco garter snake is full of different colors and designs. The San Francisco garter snake is known as the most beautiful snake in the United States of America. The San Francisco garter snake is fully protected by both the state and federal governments. It is good that they are protected by both governments because there are only one thousand to two thousand San Francisco garter snakes left in California. There are multiple reasons why the San Francisco garter snake is endangered. The reasons why they are endangered is because “Loss of habitat from agricultural, commercial and urban development and illegal collection (because of their beauty)”(https://www.fws.gov/sacramento/es_species/Accounts/Amphibians-Reptiles/sf_garter_snake/). Those are awful reasons why the San Francisco garter snakes are endangered. They need to stop building in the San Francisco area because it is hurting the snake. The most awful reason why they are becoming endangered is because people are catching and selling them. They deserve to live in the wild which is best for them because they will thrive. The San Francisco garter snake is important to the ecosystem because it eats all the little things to keep the ecosystem going. We as a society need to come together to help endanged species because they deserve to thrive just like we are. We need to help the San Francisco garter snake.

I am going to talk about the shark problem in Orange County. Over the last couple of years there have been way more shark sightings than usual. The scary part about the sharks is that they are great white sharks. Great white sharks are known for being very aggressive. That affects me because I like to go surfing a lot when I am back in southern California. It is really scary because there are some reports of some of the sharks attacking humans when they are in the ocean. The sharks are also coming very close to the shore, and even in some cases they have ended up on the shore.That is really dangerous because a little kid could go up to it and the shark would attack the little kid. The reason why there have been more shark sightings is because of El Nino. It is making the water warmer so the sharks are going where they like it and where there is plenty of food for them to eat. I feel like there should be something happening about helping and moving the sharks because it is really dangerous for us humans. The funny thing is that I do not know if there is a way for the sharks to move. All in all, the only way to get the sharks is to hope for the water to get too cold for the sharks to like it. I hope one day that I could go to the beach and not worry about a shark biting me.

#1 Tustin

I grew up in Tustin, California. It is in Orange County which is in between Los Angeles and San Diego. It was a great place to grow up in. I have lived there all my life. The funny part is that my parents grew up in Tustin as well. What makes Tustin unique is that everyone loves to live in Tustin. Everyone is so friendly and it is a really cool place to hang out in. My favorite part about Tustin is that there are so many awesome things you can do. I always went to the beach because I only lived fifteen minutes away from it. You can also go to Los Angeles whenever because it is around forty five minutes away. We also played a ton of sports because it is the best playing sports with all of your friends. I really love Tustin, but if there was one thing that I did not like about it would be that a lot of old people live there. I would love to move back to Tustin after college. In Tustin there are a ton of things young adults can do. There are a ton of bars in Tustin, so the nightlife is fun. You can also go to a Ducks or Angles game because they are both ten minutes away. There are just so many things to do in Tustin. All in all I am really happy to call Tustin my home because it is a great place to live.
